AEW has been terrorized by the heel version of The Death Riders for almost 10 months. Amid constant calls for Tony Khan to wrap the vast storyline up, new details have been revealed on concerning rumors making the rounds.
The Purveyor of Violence is 262 days into his record-setting fourth reign as All Elite Wrestling’s World Champion. The former Dean Ambrose of WWE debuted at Tony Khan’s inaugural event less than one month after leaving the largest wrestling company in the world by declining an offer. Moxley signed a multi-year AEW contract, and was immediately pushed. He now leads Marina Shafir, Wheeler Yuta, PAC, and Claudio Castagnoli as The Death Riders.
Khan announced an exclusive five-year contract extension for Moxley in October 2022, which also saw the five-time NJPW champion take on mentorship and coaching roles behind-the-scenes. While the 39-year-old and AEW are currently caught up in an unfortunate legal situation, there has been an increase in backstage talk on what the future holds for Mox, and wife Renee Paquette.
Jon Moxley’s AEW Contract Is Not Expiring Soon
Several All Elite Wrestling stars are in their contract year, and there’s increased talk of WWE potentially signing Danhausen and Private Party. A new report from Bodyslam.net notes that several All Elite contract situations are worth keeping an eye on this year, adding that not all talents are as locked-in as they might appear on-screen.
Tony Khan reportedly has several talents with contract matters approaching, and it was noted that at least a few of those wrestlers would bring a major ripple to the AEW landscape if they were to jump to WWE. Jon Moxley is obviously one of these top stars, and there’s usually chatter pertaining to his status and future, but word is that his AEW contract is still locked-in through 2027.
The Paradigm Shifter has been the subject of fan speculation on a potential early departure from AEW, which is normal for the 8-time WWE champion. Bodyslam adds that nothing has changed internally on Moxley’s status, despite the ongoing chatter. The report then pointed to how a much bigger question for the near future is if AEW will be able to retain some of the mid-card depth facing important decisions.
Renee Paquette has been married to the current AEW World Champion since April 2017, and they entered parenthood together while with AEW in June 2021. The 39-year-old has a talent contract and a producer contract with AEW, which she signed as three-year deals in October 2022. This latest report notes that the former Renee Young of WWE is set to see those deals expire in August of this year.
It’s believed that Matt Menard and Angelo Parker of 2.0 also have contracts coming due in August. Chris Jericho’s deal is set to expire at the end of this year, but these are not the only AEW talents in their contract years.
