Update On Johnny Gargano’s Wrestling Future

Johnny Gargano being interviewed

A new report has shed some light on the current status of former NXT star Johnny Gargano following his name trending on Twitter during AEW’s Beach Break special.

Johnny Gargano was last seen in a wrestling ring on the December 7th episode of NXT 2.0, where he made a heartwarming goodbye speech to the NXT crowd before being attacked by Grayson Waller. During his speech, he said he planned to step away from wrestling so he could focus on becoming a father with his wife Candice LeRae.

Recently, Gargano revealed that he made the decision to take time away from the ring well over a year ago, before his wife was even pregnant. The former NXT Champion’s future is still uncertain as he hasn’t made any indication of where he’ll end up, despite teasing that he’s keen to get back into the ring.

With AEW Beach Break taking place in Gargano’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio on January 26th, there was a lot of speculation that he would join other NXT alumni like Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly by announcing he was ‘All Elite’. However, despite “Johnny Wrestling” chants happening throughout the show, Gargano didn’t make an appearance.

Following the show, Gargano took to Twitter to address the chants, saying that he heard them and promising to make it up to disappointed fans asap.

A new report from Fightful Select has provided an update on Johnny Gargano’s status, saying that they have been told he has been in contact with some people in AEW, but it’s not known if there have been formal conversations or negotiations about the possibility of him joining the company.

The report also notes that Gargano has made it clear he is currently taking time off to help with LeRae’s pregnancy in any way he can, with their child being due “any day”.
