With the return of John Cena to WWE screens, many fans are anticipating what Cena might have planned for SummerSlam and now a new report sheds light on those plans.
Cena returned to WWE television for the first time in almost a year as he celebrated his 20th anniversary as a WWE Superstar on the 27th of June edition of Raw. John Cena was seen chatting with various WWE Superstars throughout the night, including one man who has had his fair share to say about Cena in recent weeks, WWE United States Champion Theory.
Many fans expect that with WWE having a stadium to fill for The Biggest Party Of The Summer, the company could be calling in all its big guns to help sell out the show. Indeed Brock Lesnar has also made his return to WWE television and will face Roman Reigns in SummerSlam’s main event, the Last Man Standing Match for the Unified WWE Universal Championship.
However, Dave Meltzer writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided a rumour killer on John Cena’s SummerSlam plans and says Cena might not be at the event at all. The report states that Cena vs. Theory was WWE’s plan at one point however the sixteen-time champion of the world is now not scheduled for any future TV dates.
Meltzer also suggests that if the plan for that match is still in the works then it could be delayed until WrestleMania 39 in the spring of 2023.
