Jay White has been linked with WWE for much of 2023 with initial rumours suggesting that he might appear in the Royal Rumble.
However, the show at the Alamodome came and went without the star, but that doesn’t mean the speculation has quietened down.
The New Zealand-born star was most recently in action at The New Beginning in Osaka 2023 where he took on Hikuleo in a ‘Loser Leaves Japan’ match. Although White pulled out every trick in the book and then some, he was unable to score the win, eventually being felled by a massive Chokeslam. Unsurprisingly, this sent social media into overdrive with many believing that this was proof White is heading to WWE.
Jay White To WWE After WrestleMania?
Interestingly, a new report from Fightful Select has claimed the speculation could be correct. The report states that White is looking to move back to the United States, although there is nothing set in stone. Meanwhile, WWE retains an interest in the star as they have done for a long time. However, there were never any discussions around an appearance at the Royal Rumble as he was still under contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
With regard to his contract, NJPW talent are of the belief that it expires sometime between Battle in the Valley and WrestleMania 39. That’s between February 18th and April 1st.
Fightful adds that NJPW said that they obviously would love to keep White while noting that he also has positive relationships with both AEW and IMPACT Wrestling.
Despite WWE’s interest, there remains the possibility that White could join AEW. The star has a number of friends in the promotion and appeared on Dynamite back in February 2022. This led to him wrestling on Rampage and at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door that June. During this period he also wrestled numerous matches in IMPACT.
