WWE WrestleMania 39 Main Events Yet To Be Confirmed
While Roman Reigns defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes is likely to headline the Sunday show, the Saturday night headliner is yet to be locked in. According to Dave Meltzer, there is no decision past an “internal feeling” that Charlotte Flair defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley.
Both Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley earned their rights to title matches at the Hollywood show by each winning their respective Royal Rumbles. Rhodes would enter at number 30 in the Men’s Rumble match, last eliminating entrant number 1 Gunther, who set a record breaking time spent in a standard rumble match.
The victory marks Rhodes first Mania main event match, with Reigns set to headline the show for a 6th time. The Tribal Chief first closed WrestleMania back in 2015, facing Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. The match is best known for the shocking ending that saw Seth Rollins cash in his Money in the Bank contract and walk out with the title in what was dubbed as the heist of the century.
Ripley would make history as the first woman to enter the Women’s Royal Rumble match as the first entrant and go the full distance, winning the match by last eliminating entrant number 2 Liv Morgan.
If Ripley headlines night one of WWE’s biggest show, this will be the first time that The Nightmare has ever main evented a Premium Live Event. Charlotte Flair has competed in the final match of multiple shows, most notably the first ever all women’s main event at WrestleMania 35.
With multiple matches still to be confirmed for the show, there is a possibility that the night one main event has not been officially announced, with the heavily rumoured match of The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn also being a strong favourite.
