AEW Revolution on March 5th saw FTR make their surprise returns to All Elite Wrestling.
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler hadn’t been seen on AEW television since the December 21st episode of Dynamite, and their last match to date was at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4th, where they lost the IWGP World Tag Team Title. It was revealed shortly thereafter that the team would be taking an extended break, and it was believed they would be out of the ring until April when their contracts with All Elite Wrestling were set to expire.
At Revolution, The Gunns defended their AEW World Tag Team Championship in a fatal-four-way match that also included The Acclaimed, Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett, and Orange Cassidy & Danhausen. While they were able to retain their championship gold, they were soon to be confronted by the returning FTR, who confronted the champions as they were being interviewed by Renee Paquette.
FTR quickly took out The Gunns before posing with the Tag Team Title. Their return came just days after Colten and Austin Gunn said they had “shoot” issues with the former ROH and IWGP champions. This is far from the first on-screen confrontation between the teams, as FTR also called out The Gunns back in December.
Have FTR Signed New Contracts With AEW?
According to a report from Fightful Select, Harwood and Wheeler’s return to the company was kept very quiet backstage, and many were kept in the dark about it happening.
Because of the surprise nature of their return, speculation began running rampant regarding whether or not Harwood and Wheeler’s AEW contracts were still set to expire in April. Now, a report from PWInsider puts speculation to rest, revealing that the duo are indeed locked into long-term deals. Furthermore, the report states that the pair’s disappearance from television and teases of going to another company were part of the team’s storyline.
