A former AEW World Champion could be back on TV very soon.
Samoa Joe has been off television since his Stampede Street Fight match against Chris Jericho on the July 10th episode of Dynamite. The chaotic brawl ended when Jericho loaded Joe onto a forklift truck and drove him through a wall. Joe was then taken off in an ambulance.
The angle was to write Joe off AEW programming so he could reprise his role as Sweet Tooth in the second season of Twisted Metal. Joe was cast as the iconic video game character in 2022 for the first season of the Peacock series. The show was a hit with critics and fans alike so it was not surprising that a second season was greenlit meaning Joe would once again don the clown mask again.
One of the show’s writers, Michael Jonathan took to social media to announce that the show has wrapped production meaning Joe could be in the ring soon.
When Will Samoa Joe Be Back On AEW Television?
While there isn’t a confirmed return date for the former World Champion Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has shared an additional update, mentioning that Joe is now “eligible for return” and is available to AEW now.
Twisted Metal isn’t the only video game franchise Joe is a part of. He recently confirmed that he was involved in the Valve’s Deadlock game and he has joined the video game series previously featuring Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada.
The Like A Dragon series has a rich tradition of including professional wrestlers in its games. Notable New Japan Pro-Wrestling stars such as Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito made appearances in the 2016 release, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Additionally, iconic Japanese wrestlers Masahiro Chono and Keiji Mutoh took on villainous roles in 2017’s Yakuza Kiwami 2.
Most recently, the 2022 remake of ‘Like A Dragon: Ishin!’ featured AEW’s Kenny Omega as a ‘Special Guest Trooper Card.’ Utilizing Omega’s card allowed players to perform a move reminiscent of his signature One-Winged Angel finisher.
