A new report has shed light on the AEW status of Colt Cabana and says the former Ring of Honor star could be set for a return to the brand.
Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Colt Cabana signed a deal with AEW in early 2020 and was quickly co-opted into The Dark Order by the late Brodie Lee, a group he has remained with until today. However, in recent months, Cabana’s AEW appearances have dwindled and he last competed for the company in early March 2022 when he took part in tapings for Dark.
Now Dave Meltzer has reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Colt Cabana has been assigned to Ring of Honor when the company restarts in earnest under the leadership of Tony Khan. Meltzer considers that Cabana’s return to ROH could be down to issues with CM Punk and that Cabana recently signed a new deal with the company at the behest of The Young Bucks:
“Colt Cabana hasn’t been on the show for a while as he is earmarked for the ROH group if and when that starts. This may be in some form be related to his issues with C.M. Punk. Cabana was signed to a new contract which was pushed for by Matt & Nick Jackson, and worked the ROH PPV show, but has not been at any of the AEW tapings since his new deal was signed.”
The very public falling out between former best friends CM Punk and Colt Cabana came about as a result of a lawsuit from WWE doctor Chris Amann after Punk made comments about his and WWE’s care while he worked there on Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast.
A jury found in favour of Cabana and Punk but the two men then sued and countersued each other with both these lawsuits being settled and dismissed in September 2019. Colt Cabana has only appeared on AEW Dynamite three times since CM Punk became All Elite in August 2021.
