A new report has offered an update on the speculation regarding a potential deal between Cody Rhodes and WWE.
Ever since Cody Rhodes announced that he had left AEW on February 15th, he has been linked with a stunning return to WWE. Rhodes had started his career with the company back in 2006, before leaving a decade later amid frustration over his place on the card, and creative plans for his character.
While it was initially believed that a deal between WWE and Rhodes was a formality, the American Nightmare remains a free agent. Furthermore, it was reported just days ago that talks between the two sides had broken down. This was followed by another report which stated that WWE “didn’t know” what was going on with Rhodes.
A new report has now offered a fresh update on the situation, noting that Rhodes is very much aware of the rumours surrounding his future.
The report from Fightful Select, says that they reached out to Rhodes on March 5th and he responded with the following comment.
“I logged on earlier and saw some wild stuff – these are mad times.”
However, when asked to elaborate, he replied with a photo of his dogs. From the WWE side, most talent were never told that Rhodes would be signing, but there was talk about him facing Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38. However, it is now been said that this is “uncertain.” A source within the company noted that “nothing had changed” regarding Rhodes.
The report goes on to say that Cody Rhodes’ manager Brian Wittenstein was in attendance at AEW Revolution, but only as he has other clients in AEW.
Fightful close by saying they were told that there would be “something worth looking out for” regarding the former TNT Champion’s future in one of the Hollywood trades. This includes publications such as Variety and Deadline.
