A new report has shed light on a possible return to the ring for former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and it’s not good news for his fans.
Kenny Omega made his name in Japan where he competed for DDT before joining the ranks of New Japan Pro Wrestling. As The Cleaner of Bullet Club, Omega took the heavyweight division by storm and competed in a thrilling trio of matches with Kazuchika Okada over the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
Omega was one of four active wrestlers named as an Executive Vice President when AEW was founded and since then Omega has been one of the company’s top stars. In December 2020 Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to become AEW World Champion before losing that title at Full Gear in November 2021 to his former tag team partner Hangman Adam Page.
Since then The Best Bout Machine has been out of action as he deals with a plethora of injuries including a torn labrum in his shoulder, a hernia, and issues with his knees. The star also revealed that he had been struggling with vertigo since 2018.
Now the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that there is still no hint of a return date for Kenny Omega, meaning he isn’t likely to be competing at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show that will take place in June:
“The Young Bucks also teased that when Kenny Omega is healthy he would return and face Vikingo. There isn’t even close to a date set for Omega to return, but the third TripleMania isn’t until October and if Omega is healthy this was a match he personally asked for and it’s really because of Omega in a roundabout way that Vikingo is champion to begin with.”
El Hijo del Vikingo is the reigning AAA Mega Champion and won the title after it was vacated by Omega in late 2021 with Vikingo’s victory coming at that year’s TripleMania show.
