Following a reportedly “heated” argument with Tony Khan, it’s reported that Jonathan Gresham doesn’t currently factor into company creative plans.
‘The Octopus’ dropped the ROH World Championship to Claudio Castagnoli at last Saturday’s Death Before Dishonor, doing so in a shorter match than what was initially expected. This was followed by reports of a tense discussion backstage between him and Tony Khan.
Fightful Select has now reported that Jonathan Gresham doesn’t currently factor into AEW or ROH plans. It was initially reported that Gresham had requested a release from his contract, though attempts to confirm this with either side have gone unverified.
Despite this, company officials were reportedly happy with how Gresham and Castagnoli’s match went down, and no bridges appear to have been burned. In fact, it’s reported that “many” respected Gresham’s professionalism for wrestling at all.

It was reported in April that Jonathan Gresham had signed an AEW deal to. He debuted for the company at the second Battle of the Belts, retaining the ROH championship over Dalton Castle. Since then, he had joined Tully Blanchard Enterprises.
Prior to singing with the Tony Khan-helmed promotion, it was noted that Gresham had interest from numerous other promotions; though none were noted, the former ROH Pure Champion had made a number of appearances for IMPACT Wrestling since the start of 2022.
