According to a new report, the perception is that former WWE Champion Jeff Hardy will be joining AEW in the near future.
Jeff Hardy was released from his WWE contract in early December after reportedly refusing to attend rehab after an incident at a WWE live event. His brother Matt has since confirmed that Jeff’s WWE drug tests all returned negative results.
WWE had made overtures to the younger Hardy brother to make a swift return to the company, even offering Jeff a place in the 2022 WWE Hall Of Fame but this was rejected.
Now speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has given the strongest hint yet that Jeff Hardy could become All Elite:
“Jeff Hardy we think is coming to AEW from a perception standpoint. I don’t know he’s coming to AEW but the fact that WWE wanted him back and he told them no tells me that he thinks he’s going to AEW because if not, there’s no reason not to go back.”
Meltzer’s Bryan Alvarez pointed out that during Isiah Kassidy’s match with Keith Lee on Dynamite, Matt Hardy abandoned his friend and walked out through the crowd with commentary calling Hardy’s antics “very erratic behaviour.” This was the phrase used to describe Jeff Hardy’s behaviour at a WWE live event before he was sent home and ultimately fired by the company.
Meltzer also points out that The Hardy Boyz are already advertised to compete at shows as a tag team and reckons Jeff Hardy’s non-compete clause with WWE expires on March 2nd.
Isiah Kassidy of Private Party has been closely aligned with Matt Hardy on AEW television for some time but the relationship between Hardy and the young tag team has been seen to be falling apart in recent weeks. Kassidy has also alluded to Jeff Hardy’s potential arrival in numerous Tweets on social media.
