A new report has shed light on the surprise return to WWE of Brock Lesnar on SmackDown and if that return was linked to the investigation into Vince McMahon.
On an action-packed episode of SmackDown that saw WWE Chairman Vince McMahon open the show despite stepping back as WWE CEO amid allegations of serious misconduct, it was Brock Lesnar who stole the headlines at the end of the night.
After Roman Reigns had successfully defended his WWE Universal Championship against Riddle, Brock Lesnar took the opportunity to acknowledge The Tribal Chief, making his first WWE appearance since losing to Reigns at WrestleMania 38.
Now Fightful Select has issued a report that looks to clarify if Lesnar’s unexpected return was in any way linked to the furore surrounding McMahon:
“For those asking if this was reactionary after the Vince McMahon investigation, we’re told that about three weeks ago plans were put in place for [Brock] Lesnar’s return. This would have been well after the investigation started, but well before the story about it ran.”
After SmackDown went off the air, WWE announced that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will once again go one-on-one in a Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam in late July.
