As speculation around his future continues to run wild, the backstage heat on CM Punk in AEW is very real.
CM Punk tipped the wrestling world on it’s head in the aftermath of his sensational victory over Jon Moxley at AEW All Out. In the main event of the show Punk went to war with the Blackpool Combat Club star roared on by his hometown Chicago crowd.
After a third GTS, a bloodied Punk claimed a memorable win to become AEW World Champion for a second time.
While after the match he was confronted by a returning MJF, that moment and his title win, were totally overshadowed by what came next.
With assembled wrestling media sat feet away, and Tony Khan to his left, Punk launched a verbal assault on Hangman Adam Page and AEW EVP’s the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. The star ranted about the situation around former best friend Colt Cabana, and his general upset with some within the company.
Unbelievably, things took an even crazier turn when after leaving the scrum, Punk and Ace Steel ended up in a melee with Omega and the Bucks. It was noted that Punk threw punches at his adversaries while Steel threw a chair at the Bucks, while it was reported that he had also bitten Omega.
Those within AEW have remained tight-lipped over the situation, with reports suggesting there are “pending legal issues” preventing anyone from talking.
In a fresh update, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp has reported that even AEW talent are yet to hear anything official. However, he notes that there is “unreal” heat around Punk at time of writing.
“Right now AEW talent have not been told anything official. Almost all I’ve spoken to believe CM Punk will have to go or make major amends to remain with the company. A lot of the talent haven’t arrived where Dynamite broadcasting from yet, but the heat on Punk is unreal.
Haven’t got any official word on that or suspensions. There are so many rampant “done deal” rumors about what is happening, that it’s getting almost impossible to verify. AEW isn’t talking, Tony Khan, Punk Bucks, Omega, Ace Steel aren’t. A lot of conjecture and expectations”
