A new report suggests that the WWE United States Title will still be defended at WrestleMania despite the champion being scheduled for another match over the weekend.
Finn Balor captured the United States Title from Damian Priest on the 28th of February edition of Raw. Since then the two men have continued their story on Raw while competing against each other on live events. This caused many fans to expect the two stars to face off for the title at WrestleMania but another match announcement cast doubt on that happening.
WWE announced that on ‘WrestleMania SmackDown’ on the Friday night before WrestleMania 38 itself that the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal would take place with both Finn Balor and Damian Priest featured in the graphic for that match.
However, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that a United States Title showdown between Priest and Balor “was scheduled” for WrestleMania itself. Meltzer also noted that Priest’s victory over the Irishman on the 14th of March episode of Raw suggested the men will have a match of their own on The Grandest Stage Of Them All.
Last year at WrestleMania 37 the United States Title was defended on Night 2 as Sheamus captured the championship from current Raw Tag Team Champion Riddle.
