Huge Undisputed Tag Team Title Match announced for September 23rd edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
Ahead of the match it was announced that Erik of the Viking Raiders had suffered a foot injury so is out of action for an “indefinite period.” The injury explains why the pair weren’t in the number one contenders match despite their recent impressive form.
Meanwhile it had been revealed earlier in the night that the match which was originally scheduled to feature The Street Profits, The New Day, Alpha Academy and Los Lotharios was switched to involve The New Day, Ridge Holland and Butch of the Brawling Brutes, Hit Row and Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci.
Back in the ring it was Imperium who took control for long periods, Giovanni Vinci and Ludwig Kaiser dictating the pace. However, the momentum shifted as Xavier Woods got the hottest of hot tags and took out everyone in the match.
At this chaos ensued, Top Dolla asserted his dominance marching round the ring holding Butch and both New Day members high. However, the New Day came back with Kingston launching himself out of the ring taking out the former NFL star over the commentary table. As the match raced towards a conclusion, Kaiser and Vinci hit the Imperial Bomb on Kingston but Ridge Holland made a blind tag in the process enabling him to rush into the ring and score the win.
Butch and Holland will now meet The Usos on September 23rd. It will be the first time that the pair have challenged for tag team gold.
The Usos have held both championships since defeating RK-Bro for the Raw titles back in May. They captured the SmackDown belts in July 2021, with their reign now spanning well over 400 days.
