The Undertaker could make an in-ring return to the WWE, according to a Hall of Famer.
The Deadman had his last in-ring match against AJ Styles in a Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36 in 2020, has made regular appearances for the company, and is even a mentor on their show, WWE LFG.
However, according to JBL, The Phenom making an in-ring return is a possibility.
JBL Explains Why Undertaker Could Return And Who Would Be His Opponent.
Speaking on the Something To Wrestle With podcast, The Wrestling God was asked how great it would be if Taker made a return.
JBL, a close friend of The Undertaker, said that the multi-time WWE Champion’s return could be a possibility, as he is in great shape and can still move thanks to his training regimen. He said:
“I would think it’d be a possibility. He looks great. He’s in terrific shape, and I know the type of training he’s doing, a lot of functional training, so his body’s moving well. You know, not just, you know, training, you know, like going and doing some bench press, some squats, you know, the old powerlifting lifts that we all did. He’s actually doing functional training. So, he’s working out very hard. And so, I feel like he probably could still move or move as well as he’s done for 20 years. I’d love to see him come back for something.”
When asked who the ideal opponent would be, JBL named Gunther. He reasoned that The Ring General is the ideal big guy and could easily get heat for going against the WWE legend. He responded:
” You know, and the thing is, Gunther is an easy choice. He wouldn’t be my choice because he’s a heel. But you need a big tough guy that can wrestle, that knows his way around, and you need a guy that can get heat on Undertaker. You know, Undertaker’s a big guy, and he looks great now, so it makes perfect sense that Gunther would be the guy if Taker is looking for somebody to come back. You know, that would obviously not be a heel’s choice like mine, but it would be somebody that it makes perfect sense for Taker.”
You can hear JBL’s response in the video below beginning at the 2:22:57 mark.
A match against The Phenom and The Ring General seems like a fantasy booker’s dream come true. The Hall of Famer has praised Gunther’s work in the past, and the Heavyweight Champion has the chops to deliver a great match with the legendary wrestler.
