WrestleMania 39 is set to be a star-studded event, bringing fans from across the globe to Hollywood to witness action on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier recently confirmed that he’ll be in Los Angeles for the spectacle, though he won’t be competing inside the squared circle. Instead, he’ll be serving as an analyst for ESPN and will be leading coverage of the event for sports news network ESPN.
The MMA legend confirmed his status in an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, saying:
“I’m going to WrestleMania. The first week of April for ESPN, I’ll be leading the coverage for WrestleMania. I’m so excited about it.”
Continuing, the UFC Hall of Famer said that while he’s not opposed to wrestling in WWE in the future, he’s focused on commentary opportunities at the moment and is thankful for the opportunities he’s receiving as part of the ESPN team.
“I’m getting more opportunities for ESPN, and I’m so thankful for that. So I’ll be at WrestleMania, just in a different capacity, and we’ll see what the future holds down the line.”
WrestleMania 39 Isn’t Daniel Cormier’s First Experience With WWE
Last October, Daniel Cormier took on a different role when he served as special guest referee for the main event bout between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle inside the Fight Pit at Extreme Rules. The bout saw Riddle emerge victorious, marking two Fight Pit victories for the Original Bro.
Reflecting on his experience on ESPN MMA’s DC & RC Show, Cormier admitted that he was nervous for his role inside the Fight Pit, but said the energy of a pro wrestling crowd can’t be matched.
“I was in the back and I was nervous, because obviously you know the outcome, I started forgetting the match, I was like oh my goodness. I forgot the [ending], I was so nervous bro, but once I walked out there bro, it was so fun!
The energy of the crowd, is like second to none… Then I got fans heckling me, they calling me Carl Winslow in there, they messing with me, they said DC, climb up the cage. I’m standing on the bottom saying I’m not going up there with these dudes, they’re up there actually wrestling on that little ledge bro, I was like this is crazy.” (h/t Sportskeeda)
