UFC Champion Has Surprising Wish For WWE WrestleMania 40

A UFC Champion has an unpopular opinion regarding one of the biggest WWE matches that will take place in 2024.

In April, the promotion will celebrate 40 years of WrestleMania in Philadelphia. While the majority of the card is still to be determined, many believe that Roman Reigns will keep ahold of the Undisputed Championship until Mania and will headline the show for an 8th time on Sunday. Fans are also expecting Cody Rhodes to be The Tribal Chief’s opponent, looking to avenge the loss from WrestleMania 39. However, one notable name in the combat sports world would like to see a different match.

UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards is carving out his own legacy in the MMA world and is fast approaching 500 days with the title. Also a huge wrestling fan, Edwards spoke to Sports Illustrated about the upcoming WWE Premium Live Event. When asked for his choice of opponent against Reigns, Edwards wants to see a recently returning top star challenge for the gold:

“I want Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk. That’s what I want to see. I’m excited that Punk is back,” said Edwards Those are my son’s favourites, so they’re my favourites, too.”

Due to the lengthy title reign and the significance of the event, many are also predicting that this will be the show where Reigns is finally dethroned. Fellow champion Edwards has stated that he wants the more unpopular result to take place in Philadelphia:

“100 percent, I like when that happens [the champion retians]. I want Roman to win.”

WWE Champion Discusses Possibility Of WrestleMania Dream Match

Multiple top champions are expected to defend their titles over the course of Mania weekend. One Superstar who stole the show in 2023 was Gunther, who had a critically acclaimed match against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. During a recent interview, Gunther, who has become one of the most dominant forces on the roster, commented on the chances of facing another dominant force in WWE at WrestleMania.
