Two Major Title Changes Occur During NXT No Mercy

NXT No Mercy

NXT No Mercy saw two championships changing hands.

The first champion to fall was ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio, who was challenged by Trick Williams in a bout refereed by Dragon Lee.

The chaotic bout saw Lee being taken out with an errant kick from Mysterio. However, he wasn’t able to capitalise on the lack of a referee as Williams dropped him with a neckbreaker, a new ref came in but only got a two-count.

That referee was also taken out and this time, Dirty Dom tried to take advantage using the title belt, only for Trick to avoid it and land a Jumping Knee Smash, Dragon Lee recovered in time to get back in and count the three to hand Williams the victory and the North American Championship.

Mustafa Ali had originally been scheduled for the match, but he was never planned to win.

In the semi-main event, Ilja Dragunov faced Carmello Hayes for the NXT Championship for the second time, having previously come up short at The Great American Bash back in July.

This time, things turned out differently for the Mad Dragon as he gave his all in a brutal bout that had the crowd chanting for both men. In the end, Dragunov had to use multiple H-Bomb forearm strikes before finally hitting it from the top rope to get the pinfall win and capture the gold.

After the match, Dragunov helped Hayes up and the two embrace in a show of respect.

Elsewhere on the card, Becky Lynch retained her Women’s Championship in a hard-fought Extreme Rules match against Tiffany Stratton, Noam Dar kept hold of the Heritage Cup Championship, and Tony D’Angelo & Channing Lorenzo escaped a Fatal Fourway with their Tag Team Championship intact.

In recent news, it was confirmed that Dominik Mysterio will get a rematch on the October 3rd episode of NXT.
