Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat’s final match was reportedly filmed by an American television network that currently has a deal with WWE.
The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion recently participated in his first match in over a decade as part of a Big Time Wrestling event. Now, a new report says that the match may have been filmed.
A&E Network Was On Hand During Ricky Steamboat’s Last Match
According to a report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (subscription required) A&E may have been filming the match that Ricky Steamboat says will be his last. As part of that match, Steamboat teamed with FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler to take on Nick Aldis, Jay Lethal, and Brock Anderson. As previously reported by PWInsider, Ricky Steamboat is one of a handful of names that are currently the subject of the next set of A&E Biography: WWE Legends.
It is currently not known when or if any of this footage will air but none of the names in the match are contracted to WWE and four of the six competitors currently have deals with AEW. Ricky Steamboat’s last match on WWE television took place at WWE Backlash 2009 when he went one-on-one with Chris Jericho. Chris Jericho works for AEW currently and AEW president Tony Khan recently stated that he would love to have Ricky Steamboat back on AEW programming.
Ricky Steamboat recently stated that original plans for him to come back to the ring called for him to be on the opposite side of the squared circle as the two members of FTR but that all changed once they turned face on AEW.
Also reportedly scheduled to be the subject of an A&E Biography despite being signed to AEW is Saraya, formerly Paige. Saraya recently returned to the ring at AEW Full Gear 2022. She successfully defeated Britt Baker after nearly five years away from active competition.
