Trish Stratus has given her thoughts on a major step WWE has recently taken to give the women’s division more opportunities.
During her time in the promotion, the 7-time Women’s Champion had only one championship to compete for across both brands. However, as the women’s evolution has progressed over the years, Raw and SmackDown each have a Women’s Championship and both brands are able to contest for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. In addition to this, 2 more titles are set to be introduced shortly as the first Women’s United States Champion will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event and the first Women’s Intercontinental Champion will be crowned not long after.
Speaking with Scott Fishman of TV Insider about the introduction of 2 new championships. Stratus was very complimentary of the decision and how it will force the promotion to make more women’s matches to accommodate the new titles:
I think it’s amazing. This is exactly what we wanted back in the day. We wanted the same opportunities and exposure as the men. Now this is a big step to have that level of competition. Having the titles means you’re going to have matches for those titles. There is room for multiple feuds over the titles and influx of characters. It creates opportunities for more characters on the show, who happen to be female.
Could Trish Stratus Return To WWE?
Despite not being in the ring for over a year, the former Women’s Champion has never stated that her wrestling career has come to an end. With many impressed by her most recent match against Becky Lynch, fans are hoping for one more match or a full run from the Hall of Famer. Also in the interview, Trish Stratus noted that she wanted to achieve a specific goal before retiring from in-ring competition.
