With Vince McMahon back as WWE’s Executive Director following the departure of Stephanie McMahon, the belief is that the company is heading towards a sale.
There are said to be a number of parties in the running, including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, media corporations and even Tony and Shahid Khan who own AEW. Following the news that WWE was essentially up for sale, it was reported that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were opposed to the idea.
Stephanie and Triple H were also on the Board of Directors when a previous Vince McMahon comeback was blocked.
Triple H And Stephanie McMahon Weren’t Championing A Sale
However, it has now been suggested that things aren’t quite as clear cut. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed that neither The Game or Stephanie were opposed to a sale, but they weren’t exactly pushing for it either.
“One of them [the various stories about a WWE sale] was they were opposed to a sale. From what I am told, Paul and Stephanie, they are not opposed to a sale, and they knew that at some those Vince’s shares [he’s the majority shareholder of B-class stock] were an albatross, and at some point, somebody had to get rid of those shares anyway or Vince would take over.
So, they were not like saying we have to sell. It’s Vince who pretty much made that call because of the timing, and maybe, again, he’s farther along the Saudi deal, which is maybe where those rumors came from. And knew the timing and everything like that because he jumped in for the sale. Anyways, it’s not like they are opposed to a sale. It’s not like they champion the sale, either. They were, either way [about it].”
Since Stephanie McMahon stepped down from her role as co-CEO it has been reported that there were “issues” between her and Vince McMahon behind the scenes. Following her departure from WWE, Stephanie McMahon has revealed that she underwent ankle surgery.
