As well as being a night of twists, turns, and big surprises, Money In The Bank was also a record-setter for WWE.
The show saw Damian Priest and IYO SKY survive the eponymous multi-person ladder matches to claim the briefcases that entitle them to title shots of their choice anytime, anywhere.
Meanwhile, John Cena made a shock return, advocating for WrestleMania to be held in London as well as making short work of Grayson Waller.
Drew McIntyre also came back to the company for the first time since this year’s edition of the Showcase Of The Immortals, making clear that he still has his sights on Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship.
At the post-show press conference, Triple H revealed that the event had set new records, most prominently becoming the highest-grossing arena event in the company’s long history.
“Tonight was the highest-grossing arena event in the history of WWE. Let that sink in for a moment, in the history of WWE, it’s a pretty long history.”
It didn’t end there, as SmackDown set a similar record.
“Last night was the highest-grossing SmackDown in WWE history. Two pretty bold statements that everybody here should be very proud of and I know we’re pretty proud of.
While figures weren’t yet available, the King of Kings also noted there were records set for sponsorship, merchandise, and social media.
“More than 37,000 fans over the last two nights, just here in the O2 alone.
“Sponsorship, merchandise, social media, all records for Money In The Bank.”
Cody Rhodes echoes call for WWE WrestleMania to be held in London
With so much success coming out of the latest UK event, Cena’s call for WrestleMania to be held in London resonated with many. This included Cody Rhodes, who argued that it would be “special” for the event to finally be held in London.
“London for WrestleMania would be amazing. It really, really, really would. It would be a very special thing. There’s a lot of good places, but that would be special. I don’t know if John knew something I didn’t know about.”
