In the main event of WrestleMania 37 night one, Bianca Belair defeated Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women’s Championship in match for the ages.
The 2021 Royal Rumble winner defeated ‘The Boss’ during the shows headline slot, in the first WrestleMania singles match to feature exclusively Women of Colour and the second-ever WrestleMania to be main-evented by women following on from Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35.
The Boss’ championship reign ended at an impressive 166 days, after capturing the Women’s Championship for the first time at WWE Hell in a Cell back in October of 2020 defeating long time rival Bayley in a critically acclaimed Hell in a Cell match. However, her name will live on in WWE history – alongside Belair’s – following their colossal clash on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
The victory marks Bianca Belair’s fist championship win since she joined WWE in 2016.
Following the historic contest, Tripe H took to social media to congratulate the new champion. The Executive Producer of NXT, who has overseen the rise of both Banks and Belair, commented that Belair was “just getting started.”

The opening of the highly anticipated match saw a visibly emotional Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks pause before getting the action underway. Belair later commented on those early stages, saying that it was a moment that she will “remember for the rest of her life.”
Fan shot footage later emerged of a battered and bruised Sasha Banks in floods of tears sporting a huge smile as Belair celebrated with her newly won championship.
WrestleMania also saw a new women’s champion crowed on RAW. Appearing on night two of the extravaganza Rhea Ripley overcame Asuka to win the RAW Women’s Championship.
