Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque is looking to take WWE in a completely different direction from Vince McMahon now that he heads up creative.
‘The Game’ is reportedly looking to push professional wrestling over sports entertainment as he, Stephanie McMahon, and Nick Khan lead WWE down a new path.
This is according to Jerry Jarrett, a legendary wrestling promoter himself. During a Q&A session at the Gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina, the veteran promoter opened up on a phone call Triple H made to all WWE backstage personnel this week:
“They didn’t tell me not to tell anybody. So I’ll tell you, Hunter called, this week, the Raw crew and the Smackdown crew and said, ‘My father-in-law and Stephanie’s father…We admire him and we respect him. He reached success that we would never know without him, but we don’t know how to do it his way, and we’re not going to try. We’re going to try a new way’…and I think the new way is to put wrestling instead of sports entertainment. I mean, that’s pure speculation on my part.”
Sports entertainment was infamously the mantra used by Vince McMahon when describing his behemoth of a promotion. As he said to ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin on a Stone Cold Podcast in 2014, pro wrestling was what his father promoted.
Those days are now over, it seems, with Triple H taking over in the Head of Creative role. ‘The King of Kings’ has already made numerous sweeping changes to the product, from bringing back previously released talent to positively booking specific WWE Superstars.
Fightful Select reported over the weekend that this isn’t expected to slow down either, with “several other talent” reportedly being discussed for returns. This will follow Dakota Kai, Karrion Kross, and Scarlett’s returns over the last week following their respective releases.
