Triple H Heaps Praise On WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H

Triple H has recognised GUNTHER’s record-breaking achievement.

The Ring General is now officially the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, surpassing the previous record set by The Honky Tonk Man.

The Game, who himself previously held the title 5 times, has taken to social media to credit GUNTHER on the monumental achievement:

Defining his own legacy. And this is just the beginning… Congratulations to @Gunther_AUT on making history as the longest-reigning #ICChampion EVER.

Inside The Ropes caught up with The Honky Tonk Man over SummerSlam weekend when the record looked to be in serious danger. When the Hall of Famer was asked how he felt about his record-breaking reign being in danger, the former champion responded that he didn’t care about GUNTHER overtaking his own historic reign.

Triple H Acknowledges WWE History Has Been Made

The leader of Imperium defeated Ricochet on the June 10th 2022 episode of SmackDown to capture his first singles championship on the main roster. Not only would the reign become the longest in history but defences against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were some of the best battles over the IC title ever seen within the company.

The final hurdle came on the September 4th episode of Raw when GUNTHER was challenged once again by Chad Gable, who had defeated the champion via count-out 2 weeks prior. Despite Gable’s family being in attendance in the front row, the Alpha Academy coach was unable to get the job done and was added to the tally of those who have tried but failed to unseat the dominant champion.
