Triple H has noted that WWE currently have ten Indian talent ready to exhibit on the company’s main stage.
With WWE Superstar Spectacle on the horizon, the spotlight is pointing firmly on the company’s Indian stars to prove that they can not only carry a brand – NXT India – but are ready to perform on the biggest stage of their entire life. However, they will not be alone as former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and current 205 Live team The Bollywood Boys will help the new generation to leader the way.
Now, according ‘The Game’ who spoke to the Hindustani Times, the promotion have at least ten brand new names ready for the big time with these men and women presumably heading up the tournament to crown the inaugural NXT Indian Champion in the not too distant future:
“We are recruiting in India since 2015 and training them. We have been going there continuously, unfortunately, the COVID situation slowed that process down but we have talent. We have 10 Indian talents that we believe are ready for the main stage. There are going to be some of the biggest stars like Drew McIntyre, Charlotte, and legends like Ric Flair during the show. You are also going to see Indian culture.
We have been trying to find athletes since 2014 who could become local Indian WWE stars with a long-term goal of starting a WWE NXT India. The pandemic delayed that project. We are at a point now where we believe we have athletes ready or getting ready to take that big stage. If we could do that in person, we would be in India doing it. That idea came up, we put it through our WWE talent on Raw, SmackDown, and NXT to see who all are willing to be a part of this. And they all jumped on it,” revealed Triple H, WWE’s Executive VP of Global Talent Strategy & Development.
India is so special to them, the connection there. We worked with our partners Sony who have been incredible and we talked about this opportunity to come into the ThunderDome, to go live with Indian fans and really put on a spectacle. The Republic Day seemed the right time to do it. It just all kind of came together.”
WWE Superstar Spectacle was recorded on January 22 at the WWE Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida. While it was initially believed that the event would hold an eight-man tournament to crown the first ever NXT Indian Champion, those plans have since been delayed, with the television special being used to highlight the depth of talent that will eventually transition into NXT India.
Airing on January 26 on the WWE Network as well as Sony TEN 1 and Sony TEN 3 in India, the event will see Finn Balor battle Guru Raj, Sareena Sandhu and Charlotte Flair go against Bayley and Natalya, as well as the returning Jinder Mahal team with The Bollywood Boys to battle WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Indus Sher.
