Speaking on a media call following night two of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, Triple H provided an update on the WWE status of amateur wrestling star Gable Steveson.
The much-sought after amateur wrestling champion was shown in the crowd at NXT’s showcase event alongside Stephanie McMahon.
Steveson, who is an NCAA Champion, winner of the Danny Hodge Trophy and member of the American wrestling team for the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games, has been linked with WWE for a number of months.
Answering a question posed by Nick Hausman, Triple H explained that WWE are a fan of Steveson and visa versa.
“The Gable came here tonight and enjoyed the show as a guest, had his dad with him. You know just won the NCAA Championships and the National Championships and just, you know, obviously qualified for the Olympics, and that is a big task at hand. So, you know, huge fan of what we do. We’ve been talking for a long time and we want to come out here, you know, reached out, want to come out, see TakeOver, see WrestleMania and we’ll see where it goes.”
The Game went on to praise Steveson, commenting that he has a bright future in whatever he decides to do before adding that he would make an “amazing” WWE Superstar.
“I would hate to say to a guy who’s a junior in college, you know, let’s make some decisions in the moment while you’re trying to get ready for the Olympics. You know, let’s let’s focus on one wonderful thing at a time. He’s got a bright future in anything that he decides to do. But he’s a massive fan of what we do. And I am a massive fan, as we all are, of what he can bring to the table here. And if he does make the decision to come here and want to want to become a WWE Superstar, I have no doubt he will do it, do it in record time and be amazing at it.”
