On April 28th, Trinity Fatu made her return to wrestling, appearing at the latest set of IMPACT Wrestling tapings.
The star remained largely away from wrestling after walking out of WWE back in May 2022. During her time out of the ring, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion formerly known as Naomi stayed quiet about her reasons for leaving the company, meaning that speculation reigned supreme for the best of a year.
However, since landing in IMPACT, Trinity has spoken more openly about why she left WWE after spending 13 years with the sports entertainment giant.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion reiterated that leaving WWE was a “blessing in disguise.” She added that she felt stagnant and unhappy, commenting “Everything kind of just broke me that day.”
“That’s what I meant when I said everything was a blessing in disguise because I was really going through a lot. I felt very stagnant and I wasn’t happy. Ultimately, I left that day because of the way I was talked to and handled. Everything kind of just broke me that day. It had nothing to do with anything else, anybody else. That was just it. I had to.
To go through all the backlash and the negativity and the lies and the rumors and then to also kind of just feel lost, it broke me. It was probably the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life.
But going through that made me reset and face it head on and figure out how to learn from this experience and grow from it [and] just find myself again in all of it. I’m extremely happy now and really thankful for this opportunity to show that you haven’t seen me at my best yet.”
Trinity Left WWE Alongside Mercedes Mone
Trinity hasn’t wrestled since May 15th, 2022 when she teamed with Mercedes Mone to take on Natalya and Shayna Baszler at a live event. A day later both Trinity and Mone, known as Sasha Banks at the time, walked out of a Monday Night Raw taping and didn’t appear for the company again. The pair were the Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time.
Since leaving WWE Mercedes Mone has relaunched her career with New Japan-Pro Wrestling. While it is believed that Mone isn’t locked into a long-term deal with the promotion, NJPW remains keen to keep working with the star.
