According to one AEW star, Travis Scott is training with a WWE Hall of Famer.
The final moments of the Elimination Chamber PLE sent shockwaves around the world as John Cena brutally attacked Cody Rhodes, turning heel for the first time in over 20 years. The attack came after The Rock and hip hop megastar Travis Scott made their way to the ring, with Rock once again demanding Rhodes’ soul.
During the beatdown, Travis Scott legitimately injured Cody Rhodes as a result of his slap, and many have been critical of the star not knowing how to work safely in the ring.
Speaking in an interview with Bootleg Kev, former AEW Champion Swerve Strickland gave his thoughts on the incident, first pointing out that the moment was a dream come true for Scott as a lifelong wrestling fan.
“That’s a very excited artist who finally got to do his dream. You’re in there with the two biggest icons that we have left. The two biggest icons that have ever done it. Of course you’re excited, and you’re with the world champion, so this is the guy who (represents) this era moving forward. That’s a lot of excitement and pressure.”
“Make Sure You Take Care Of Yourself And Others” – Swerve Strickland’s Advice To Travis Scott
Continuing, Strickland pointed out that it’s easy to get excited in the heat of the moment, and that excitement can lead to mistakes in the ring, particularly for people who haven’t been properly trained. Strickland also revealed that Scott told him he was training with WWE Hall of Famer Booker T, indicating that he wants to do more in the wrestling business.
“That’s what happens when you get excited with someone who is not in our industry. It’s an exciting moment. It’s a crossover thing and he doesn’t know. I think they wanted it so it could feel natural. Sometimes you want the natural reaction from other people outside of wrestling. You want them to be natural, flow, and feel. Then, it’ll feel real. Then that stuff happens and it’s, ‘Ah, too far. Too much.’
I was on the golf course with Travis not that long ago. He didn’t know that was coming, but he was telling me, ‘I’m excited. I’m training with Booker T. This is going to be wild.’ He wanted to talk more about wrestling than music. He was excited. I was like, ‘Make sure you take care of yourself and others.'”
