One popular WWE Superstar has hinted that change could be on the way.
Matt Riddle returned to WWE television on the April 3rd episode of Raw to attack The Miz. It was the first time the star had featured on the red brand since being stretchered from ringside back in December following an assault from Solo Sikoa.
Riddle followed this up with another appearance on SmackDown where he came to the aid of Sami Zayn who was being beaten down by The Bloodline.
During his time in WWE, Riddle became popular for his comedic backstage skits and goofy persona. However, speaking in a WWE vlog looking at his comeback, the star said that it’s time for a change. The former United States Champion said that he’s determined to bring out a more serious side of his character, pointing to his real-life martial arts training.
“Before I left, I beat Seth (Rollins) in a Fight Pit Match in the main event of Extreme Rules.
Instead of kinda keeping that ride on, I kinda went back into goofy Riddle mode. And I feel like this time around, it’s still me, I’m always gonna be me, but I wanna bring a more serious side to it.
You know, I’ve been working out a lot, I’ve been training a lot of jiu-jitsu. I just got my black belt.
And I wanna really showcase my skills and my expertise and show the world I’m also one of the top fighters in the world and I can take anybody on in this company.”
Matt Riddle’s WWE Partner In Crime Still Missing
As Matt Riddle steps up his efforts to become a “serious” WWE Superstar, it seems that he’ll be going on this quest alone at least for now.
The star enjoyed his greatest run of success in WWE to date alongside Randy Orton as RK-Bro. The unlikely team won the Raw Tag Team Titles twice, before losing the gold to The Usos. Following this defeat, Orton has been absent from WWE television, and underwent back surgery, with some believing his career could be over.
Despite reports that Orton was in town for WrestleMania 39, he is said to be still some way from returning to action, with a report noting WWE was actively trying to play down expectations of a comeback during WrestleMania weekend.
