Top WWE NXT Star Originally Offered Main Roster Spot, Explains Why They Turned It Down

A current champion in WWE NXT has stated that there was an option for them to bypass the developmental brand and go straight to the main roster.

One of many major NXT signings over the past year, Stephanie Vaquer has impressed the fans with her performances on the Tuesday night show and captured her first championship last month by defeating Fallon Henley to become the new Women’s North American Champion.

Following a further confrontation with NXT Women’s Champion Giulia, Vaquer could make history at the upcoming Roadblock special by becoming a double champion as she and Giulia will clash with both titles on the line. However, according to the Women’s North American Champion, her WWE career could have started out much differently.

During an appearance on Busted Open After Dark, Vaquer stated that an opportunity to start out on the main roster did present itself but she chose NXT to learn the American style and improve her English:

My dream. WWE is my dream… I tried to think like an adult, that option. But WWE is my dream and say, okay, this is for me. Many options and talks but, say no. WWE is for me and I take NXT because I really like (to) do things or new things but good. I don’t like the fast and no good.

So, I say okay, I need to learn English, I need to learn TV show, I need to learn American style, WWE style. So I say, first I say main roster. That changed and say, ‘I want to go to NXT to learn…’ Yeah (WWE asked me if I wanted to start on the main roster)… Main roster (was my first answer). The first call, they call me and say, ‘NXT or main roster?’ I say, ‘Main roster…’ Yeah, I think and say, ‘Okay. Take it easy. I need to learn English… Okay, change. NXT.’
