New TNA Champion Joe Hendry has his sights set on John Cena for a future showdown.
Finally winning the title at Genesis, Joe Hendry made everyone believe as he pinned Nic Nemeth to win the World Championship for the first time in his career.
Now that the Scottish star is the top champion in the company, he has a target on his back and will not be short on challengers. However, if Hendry had his pick, there is only one name he wants to be standing across the ring from.
Appearing as a guest on Busted Open Radio, Hendry was asked who the number one person he was looking over his shoulder at right now, to which Hendry pitched one of the biggest matches that is hypothetically possible:
“John Cena. Let me tell you why. Look let’s let it continue. I have done all the things that I thought would be impossible. We’re in an era where anything can happen, and just before Genesis Triple H tweeted us, Shawn Michaels tweeted the show and Cena, who hadn’t tweeted about it before, tweeted the TNA logo on his Instagram. What kind of representative would I be for TNA if I didn’t call out John Cena?”
When asked if he believed that he could hang with Cena in a promo battle, Hendry responded that he would have no trouble going head-to-head with the 16-time World Champion:
“1000%. I love it, because when John Cena gets on that microphone he tells the truth, and I genuinely, honestly believe that people haven’t seen what I can truly do on the microphone yet. I feel so comfortable going out there with nothing prepared, and to me John Cena in the top, top echelon of talkers ever in this business. If you don’t invite that challenge to try and step up then you are not challenging yourself. I want it, I know how powerful he is on that microphone, but I believe I can hang with Cena.”
Another TNA Star Calls Out John Cena
With Cena making it clear that this is his final year as a WWE Superstar, just about everyone from the world of wrestling is looking to get their moment with the Hollywood star. With WWE and TNA also recently announcing that they will be collaborating for the foreseeable future, there is the unlikely but not impossible scenario where Cena makes his debut on Impact. Discussing John Cena in a previous interview, one TNA star who knows the WWE legend very well made the pitch to recreate a memorable moment.
Recently Joe Hendry explained how he adopts the “John Cena method” when dealing with criticisms.
