There has been tension between Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland for a number of weeks, and at AEW Full Gear that tension boiled over in spectacular fashion.
Heading into the event Swerve in Our Glory were looking to regain their AEW World Tag Team Titles having lost them to The Acclaimed back at Dynamite Grand Slam. The two teams have been battling ever since, but now the fight finally appears to be over.
AEW World Tag Team Title Match Sparks Chaos
Going into the match both Anthony Bowens and Max Cater were struggling with injuries, which naturally the challengers tried to take advantage of. However, fans got a glimpse of what was to come later as Strickland headed off into the crowd to retrieve a guard rail much to the annoyance of Keith Lee.
This quickly came back to bite Strickland as he was driven into the barrier. After more frantic action, both Caster and Bowens found themselves on the outside. Strickland threw Caster over the timekeepers table and Daddy Ass ran in to make the save, only to be thwarted by a team of referees. Back in the ring, Strickland handed Lee a pair of plyers and ordered him to use them on Bowens.
Despite the urging of his partner, Lee threw the weapon to the floor. At this Strickland launched a huge slap on his partner, only for Lee to help Bowens to his feet and leave the ring. With Strickland flying solo, The Acclaimed were able to come back and win.
Earlier on the show, Jamie Hayter won the Interim AEW Women’s Championship after defeating Toni Storm via interference from Britt Baker and Rebel. Meanwhile, Saraya won her first match back in five years as she pinned Baker.
The Elite also made their return to the ring, although they were defeated by Death Triangle who retained their AEW World Trios Titles.
