Mercedes Mone has been making waves her entire career, and now that the former Sasha Banks has returned to wrestling, she has a whole new crop of opponents wanting to step up to face her.
One such opponent is Saraya, who recently made her own return to wrestling when she debuted in AEW last September. The star had previously been forced to retire due to neck injury, but now she’s back and has formed an alliance with Toni Storm and Ruby Soho as The Outcasts.
Speaking in a new interview with Raj Prashad of UPROXX, Saraya opened up about AEW holding its first-ever UK event inside Wembley Stadium in August, saying the event has a huge feel to it. She even compared AEW All In to the very first WrestleMania in terms of significance.
“I haven’t performed in the UK in years. And then to be on one of the biggest stages you can get over there, Wembley Stadium, it’s just a very wild opportunity. It does have that WrestleMania 1 vibe where this is something really special. I feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of history.”
“Do We Open That Forbidden Door?” – Saraya On Facing Mercedes Mone At AEW All In
When asked who she’d like to face on such a large stage, the Norwich native named either AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter or IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone, with whom she has plenty of history from the time they both spent in WWE.
“I would love to face Jamie Hayter. That would be amazing, because she’s also from the UK — I’ve had the opportunity to be in a tag and triple threat, but not a singles match, and I would love that opportunity. Do we open that Forbidden Door? Mercedes Moné, I would love to face her there. That would be such a full circle moment. There’s so much opportunity there.”
Mone is currently signed to NJPW, making her debut for the promotion at Wrestle Kingdom 17. She won the IWGP Women’s Championship from KAIRI at Battle in the Valley, and recently indicated she’s learning the Japanese language and plans to move to Japan full time.
