According to a new report, fans shouldn’t expect to see Matt Cardona appear in IMPACT Wrestling any time soon.
The report from Fightful Select notes that Cardona is done with the company for the time being. The former WWE star had been working for the promotion without a contract for two years and they had been hopeful of locking him down to something more official.
Although Cardona was happy to work agreed dates, he wanted to do so under the same handshake agreement, however, this wasn’t something IMPACT was prepared to offer.
The report adds that IMPACT has been a “little more adamant” in getting talent to sign deals, as seen with Nick Aldis in the last few weeks.
Sources familiar with the situation note that there is “no drama” between Cardona and the promotion and the two sides are open to working together in the future.
The report closes by saying that Cardona was adamant that he would be returning, but only on a handshake deal.
The star last wrestled for the company in January challenging Joe Hendry for the Digital Media Title in a match that was broadcast on February 9th. Cardona has been linked with a return to WWE for a number of months to join back up with his wife Chelsea Green who made her own return to the sports entertainment giant in January.
IMPACT Wrestling Secure Two Big Signings
While Matt Cardona might have bowed out of IMPACT Wrestling, the company recently secured deals with Nick Aldis and former WWE star Trinity.
Trinity, formerly known as Naomi in WWE made her return to wrestling with IMPACT on May 4th. Her comeback was filmed on April 28th.
This was the star’s first wrestling appearance since leaving WWE in May 2022.
