The fight for the NXT Championship at Great American Bash got personal as a confrontation led to the top rope breaking during the main event segment!
On June 14th, Cameron Grimes confronted NXT Champion Bron Breakker after Breakker was able to defeat Duke Hudson. Having just lost the North American Championship to Carmelo Hayes at In Your House, Grimes made it clear that he now has his eyes set on Breakker’s title.
Fast forward to this week, and the two men once again faced off in the closing segment of the show. Breakker made it clear that he’s bigger, faster and stronger than his challenger – but Grimes responded with words that cut to the bone when he invoked the the champion’s WWE Hall of Fame father and questioned his accomplishments.
“We get it Bron. You’re bigger, you’re faster, you’re stronger, we all see it! But what you don’t have, and I’ll say it ’till the air in my lungs runs out: you don’t have heart, and you don’t have my heart.
“But it’s not your fault Bron. It’s just genetics. Your daddy didn’t have no heart either. That’s why he was never a World Champion, and that’s why…”
With this, Bron Breakker had enough and attacked Cameron Grimes, lifting the North Carolina native over his head. However, Grimes was able to retaliate and threw Breakker into the ring post, which appeared to hurt the champion’s arm.
When he was thrown into the ring post a second time, the top rope broke and Breakker clutched at his arm even tighter, which led Grimes to sinisterly question if he was 100% going into their match next week.
