Top NXT Star Chose WWE Over Another “Juicy” Offer

Stephanie Vaquer WWE

Earlier this year, a top NXT talent finally made her NXT debut.

After years of wait, Mexican wrestling sensation and International star Stephanie Vaquer officially joined WWE in July. With her footprint all over the globe, she is vividly known for her work in CMLL and her match against Mercedes Mone at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Arguably one of the biggest female stars on the Independent wrestling circuit, Vaquer was also the CMLL World Women’s Champion and CMLL World Women’s Tag Team Champion during her signing. Despite such enjoying stardom, Vaquer opened up on her decision to join the Stamford-based promotion in an interview with Noticias 24.

I’ll be very honest. Since I was a child, my dream was to sign for WWE. But you grow up, you can’t be guided by the dreams you had when you were 9 years old. When I did what I did in Mexico and Japan, I had already fulfilled a dream. I was missing this extra. Not everything is money. I received another very juicy offer financially. To be a complete wrestler, I was missing being in WWE. I came to NXT because it was the best women’s division in existence.”

Signing with the Stamford-based promotion in July, Vaquer made her official debut in October and was soon involved in a feud involving Giulia, Roxanne Perez, and Cora Jade. She is now scheduled to compete in the Iron Survivor Challenge match at NXT Deadline.

Mercedes Mone Believes Stephanie Vaquer’s Match Against Her Helped Sign With WWE

Writing in her Mone Mag newsletter, AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone discussed her match against Stephanie Vaquer at the Forbidden Door PPV and claimed how it might have helped her join hands with her former promotion.

Another time was with Stephanie Vaquer for AEW’s Forbidden Door. Stephanie flew in that day and got to the building maybe an hour before the doors opened. We just talked about the match a little where she speaks a whole different language (Spanish). That was so hard. I’m like, my God, we don’t get time to walk over our moves, we speak two different languages, and we’re both tired, jet lagged, and hungry, too. Yet, that also turned out to be such a great match. She was signed by the WWE days later. I’d like to think our match had a say in that!”
