Top AEW Tag Team Expected To Leave Company, Seemingly WWE Bound

Former AEW Tag Team Champions The Lucha Bros look set to be the latest names to depart the promotion and are heavily expected to join WWE in the near future.

As first reported by Ibou of WrestlePurists on August 5th, Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix will not be renewing their contracts when they expire later in the year and look set to be the latest stars to join WWE when their current deals expire, with some believing that it is a “formality.” With All In just a few weeks away, Lucha Bros were pencilled in to challenge for the Trios Championship at Wembley Stadium but plans have since changed. The report has also been corroborated by Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.

Back in June, it was reported that Penta El Zero Miedo was expected to not re-sign with AEW despite the fact that Tony Khan was confident that he would be able to lock in the former Tag Team Champion to a new deal. The following month, it was reported that Rey Fenix’s contract was also coming to an end and looked set to join his brother in exploring free agency.

Lucha Bros Look To Bring 5-Year AEW Run To An End

The duo became All Elite back in 2019 and were a part of the first group of signings to the promotion. During their time with the company, the tag team held the titles once and the Trios Championships alongside PAC once. Additionally, Fenix previously reigned as the International Champion. The brothers last competed together on AEW TV on the July 17th episode of Rampage where they defeated Private Party.

If Fenix and Penta do join WWE they will be the latest in many former AEW stars to have made the jump in 2024 with previous signings including Shawn Spears, Ethan Page and Andrade.
