Top AEW Star Reveals They Are Not Cleared, Gives Time Frame On Return

AEW prides itself on offering wrestling fans a true alternative to WWE. One of the ways the promotion does this is by regularly showcasing violent and blood-soaked brawls, which is a style of action rarely seen in the other company.

One such match was a wild street fight on the January 11th edition of Rampage. The fight saw Ruby Soho and Williow Nightengale take the Jericho Appreciation Society’s Anna Jay and Tay Melo.

The match saw Soho bleed buckets, Jay take a crazy bump off the stage resulting in separated ribs and Melo with thumbtacks embedded in her head.

Alongside her husband Sammy Guevera, Tay Melo guested on the Elite POV podcast. During the interview, the Brazilian Judoku spoke about the dangers of the match and how a pre-existing injury is hampering her return to the ring.

“I have a [disc] protrusion in my back, since Judo, so, it’s something that I’ve been dealing with more than 10 years by now. I know how to go about it. So, before the match, I started feeling it a little bit, and the doctors in AEW are super good.

I told them, they helped me and asked if I wanted to do it [the match] and I was like ‘I’m gonna do it, lets go.’ I would never say no let me tell you unless I’m really dying.

I knew I was in pain the day before. I couldn’t walk. At the airport the walk so long we had to get a wheelchair […] so I was able to do the match but I knew after the match it would suck.

So I’m not cleared for now but I will be back really soon. I’m good already, I want to be cleared but the doctors want to make sure I’m a 100% and told me I’ll be cleared in the next couple of weeks.

Tay Melo Will Miss AEW Revolution

Unfortunately, the injury means that Melo will miss AEW’s first PPV of the year, Revolution. The PPV takes place on Sunday, March 5th from Chase Center in San Francisco, California. The event is the promotion’s first PPV to be held in the Golden State.
