WWE and AEW fans are turning up the heat in the so-called wrestling war this weekend. The two companies are putting on big events at the same time, and now one of AEW’s most controversial stars is speaking out against the counter-programming, and is actually defending Nick Khan and Triple H.
Tony Khan is set to present AEW All In: Texas on Saturday. The start time was moved to the afternoon after WWE announced Saturday Night’s Main Event XL for a head-to-head battle. WWE then announced NXT’s The Great American Bash for Saturday, to reignite the head-to-head discussion for this weekend. Triple H and Nick Khan will then present Evolution II on Sunday, but the event is reportedly suffering due to the busy weekend.
MJF is set to compete in the Men’s Casino Gauntlet at All In. He will also be ringside as The Hurt Syndicate defends the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Patriarchy and JetSpeed. The Devil recently spoke with TV Insider to promote All In, and was asked if he has a bigger chip on his shoulder knowing that WWE has booked shows to run against AEW.
“You mean shows that are running at the exact same time as us, even though they claim we’re not competition? How do I feel about it? I think it’s a smart business practice. I give jolly old St. Nick and Trips a whole lot of credit. At the end of the day, if you can stomp out your competition, you’re doing what is necessary. Lord knows I would,” MJF said.
AEW’s MJF Defends WWE Executives Triple H And Nick Khan
Maxwell Jacob Friedman is going viral for his surprising response to a TV Insider question on WWE booking counter-programming against AEW, specifically his thoughts on Nick Khan and Triple H. The former AEW World Champion continued, and said it’s silly to judge the WWE President and Chief Content Officer.
The Salt of The Earth promised to not pretend the decisions made by WWE are not ignorant. MJF then reminded everyone that he would probably do the same thing.
“Everyone is judging them for it. I think that’s silly. Don’t judge them for it, but also, don’t be stupid. They’re not doing this by happenstance. This isn’t circumstantial. None of it is. The difference between me and everyone else is even though I know that, I’m not going to pretend that is not the truth or going to stand here and pretend that’s not an incredibly intelligent thing to do. I would stomp on anyone’s neck if it meant I would get ahead. I’ve done it a million times in my career. That’s my thoughts on that,” MJF said.
AEW previously announced its residency at the former ECW Arena in Philadelphia from August 27-September 11. WWE just announced a special event in The City of Brotherly Love for August 19, one week before AEW and ROH arrive.
