As AEW has evolved since its inception, Tony Khan envisions 2025 as the year when the promotion ascends to become a firmly established challenger in the professional wrestling landscape, a development that has been part of the original plan.

When AEW emerged in 2019, it marked the first time in nearly two decades that WWE faced a significant challenger from a North American wrestling promotion since the dissolution of WCW and ECW in 2001.

During a media call preceding AEW Revolution 2024, Tony Khan, in conversation with Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, emphasised the pivotal opportunity presented by the renewal of media rights. Khan expressed confidence in securing substantial increases for AEW’s flagship programs, Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision, through these negotiations.

The biggest opportunity lies in the media rights renewal, where Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision will all be getting huge, huge increases, I can say for sure. Going into that and having that confidence, I think ’25 is going to go down as the year where AEW really took the leap from being a start-up company to being the established challenger player in pro wrestling for decades to come and establishing all of that in basically five years, that was the five-year plan,

Tony Khan stated that he doesn’t think he will ever wrestle in AEW. Khan said that AEW has the best wrestlers in the world and that the company is trying to put on the best matches so he doesn’t think anybody wants to see him in the ring.
