Tony Khan has given an update on the future of AEW Dynamite special Winter Is Coming.
Throughout 2022 AEW have held a number of special editions of Dynamite with the most recent, Grand Slam, taking place in September. The event saw the AEW debut of Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE, while the Great Muta made a shock appearance on the special edition of Rampage.
One of the regular specials that fans have become familiar with is Winter Is Coming. The show was first held in 2020 with the second instalment following a year later.
Speaking during an appearance on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that the special will be retuning in December.
“I can tell you that there will be Winter is Coming again this year.”
The first-ever Winter Is Coming special featured the AEW debut of Sting. It had previously been thought that the star had retired after suffering a serious neck injury while with WWE back in 2015. The shock appearance was The Icon’s first on TNT since defeating Ric Flair on the final episode of WCW Nitro back in March 2001.
In the main event, Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to claim the AEW World Championship.
At the 2021 edition of the special then-AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page battled Bryan Danielson to a gruelling 60-minute draw. The match was later awarded a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
