Tony Khan wants to continue giving the AEW Women’s Division the same opportunities as the men, regardless of how violent the match may be.
Priding itself on being the alternative promotion, All Elite Wrestling has frequently put on violent matches on TV that see barbaric weapons, high-impact bumps and a lot of bloodshed as a result. This has also been seen in the stipulation matches for the female performers, most notably the lights-out match between Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa that saw Baker covered in blood and thrown into thumbtacks.
Ramping up the brutality once more on July 24th, the promotion will present the 4th annual Blood and Guts match, which will continue the trend of the past 3 years of showcasing the bedlam and bloodshed that the company has become known for.
While the previous matches have only seen the men’s wrestlers compete inside the double ring cage match, Khan is not opposed to the idea of having the first-ever Women’s Blood and Guts match on AEW TV at some point. Appearing on the Battleground podcast, Khan stated that it would be great to see and when there are enough wrestlers tied into a story, it might happen:
“At some point, it would be great to have a women’s Blood & Guts match. I think you need a lot of people tied in on [the] story, and a lot of healthy people,” Khan said. “We have a great roster that we’re building up, and I think our women’s roster is stronger than it’s ever been right now today. And I’m really excited about that. So if we ever get to the point where we’ve got enough people tied together and the story makes sense, I think it would be great.”
It should be noted that members of the roster are also open to the idea, with Skye Blue stating the following in a previous interview:
“To be the first woman to have a Blood & Guts match — I would cry,”
