Tony Khan has addressed the changes behind the scenes in AEW compared to one year ago.
In June 2023, All Elite Wrestling premiered the first episode of the Saturday night show Collision, which also saw the first appearance of CM Punk onscreen since the infamous events that occurred at the All Out 2022 post-show. With Punk kept apart from The Elite, fans wondered what would happen when all parties involved would be at the same venue for the inaugural Wembley Stadium show. As has been well documented, what did happen was the infamous incident between Punk and Perry following the TNT Champion’s “Real glass” comments on the pre-show.
Despite the fact that the 2023 show was supposed to be a triumph for the promotion, the infamous Punk and Jack Perry altercation that took place during the show became the main talking point when all was said and done.
Fast forward to All In 2024 and Khan was asked about the AEW creative process and how All In was better received in regards to the build at the post-show press conference. Highlighting that he has “A football team” of people helping him put together the show and that he pitches hundreds of ideas, Khan added that the backstage environment has been a lot better while not directly mentioning the altercation:
“I think this year it has helped because last year we literally just launched Collision. I frankly think it’s an easier environment backstage at Collision than it was a year ago to do things. I think it’s a lot easier flow between the two shows than it was a year ago. I think the locker room is in a much better place than it was a year ago as evidence by when we came up here vs. what happened here a year ago.
It’s a much easier job I have, because I had to deal with the people on Collision last year and it’s a much easier meeting process to put the TV together than it was a year ago at this time too because we were obviously dealing with a lot of things going into Wembley last year, which obviously showed up. But today was, I thought, the most spectacular day I’ve ever had.”
Recently the September 14th AEW Collision spoilers have been revealed.
Tony Khan Defends AEW Booking
Although multiple storylines in the lead-up to All In were praised by fans and well built, not everyone was a fan of every championship build. Also in the press conference, Tony Khan defended one title build after one reporter described it as a “joke.”
Also at the press conference, Tony Khan discussed the surprise appearance of Daniel Garcia.
In a follow-up to the show, Tony Khan touted the success of All In.
