AEW President Tony Khan has again refused to answer questions regarding the current whirlwind surrounding MJF.
After seemingly weeks of build-up on the June 1st edition of AEW Dynamite, MJF came to the ring, grabbed a microphone and opened fire on everything in sight.
The star put down fans, co-workers, the company’s ex-WWE Superstars, fellow wrestlers he thought were unsafe, and said he didn’t want to be there, before begging Tony Khan to fire him, screaming that he was a “f*cking mark.” With MJF in mid-explosion, his mic was cut off and the show went to a commercial break.
Unseen by fans at home, CM Punk came came to the ring to chase off the want-away star.
The promo wasn’t mentioned again on the show, and clips weren’t posted on social media as usual. In addition, MJF was removed from the AEW roster page and his merchandise was taken down from their online store.
In the days after the highly-charged segment, no one from AEW, including Khan or Mr Friedman himself, have commented on the events publicly.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Khan was asked for his reaction to the promo, but again he was giving nothing away.
“I can’t comment on that part. I would say that it was a great night overall at the Forum, on the aggregate,”
Tension between MJF and Tony Khan has been building for months, after the AEW boss took issue with the star for undertaking an unauthorised interview. This coupled with the MJF openly courting WWE and suggesting he’d sign for them if offered the right money, apparently created a rift between the two.
The situation reached boiling point over Double or Nothing weekend, as MJF missed a fan-fest event the day before the show.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Dynamite Diamond Ring winner is also casting his eye towards Hollywood.
