Tony Khan has been asked about the possibility of hosting an AEW show in a venue wrestling fans are very familiar with.
During its 5 year history, All Elite Wrestling has utilised a number of notable locations to present TV shows or pay-per-views including Arthur Ashe Stadium for Grand Slam specials, the Greensboro Coliseum for Sting’s retirement match and Wembley Stadium for All In.
Frequently paying homage to extreme promotion ECW with notable alumni making appearances and violent matches being a regular fixture, AEW would not look out of place in the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Additionally, with multiple shows hosted in the state in the past, New York has proven to be a popular market for the company.
Speaking on SportsGrid, Khan was asked if he had any interest in using the venue for an event and how successful it would be:
“Yes. I think that’s a very interesting idea. I’ve never been to the Hammerstein Ballroom. I’d love to do it. I’ve seen great shows there. I think it’s a great venue. I’ve never been. We also have these amazing relationships around New York. For the right event, on the right night, it could make a lot of sense. I’d imagine it would sell out very quickly because it’s not the biggest room, but it is a fascinating setup and a cool looking room.
It has great acoustics and is a lot of fun from everything I’ve seen on television. I’d love to check it out in person. It’s a great idea. The Hammerstein Ballroom could be a cool venue sometimes. I haven’t thought much about it, but it’s an awesome idea.”
Tony Khan Open To Introducing Violent Match In AEW
If AEW were to present a show in the Hammerstein Ballroom, fans would be expecting a night of extreme action given the history of the venue’s relationship with ECW and Khan would likely grant that wish. Speaking in a separate interview, Tony Khan admitted that a violent first-time-ever match in AEW “would be great.”
