Tony Khan Makes Rare On-Screen Appearance On Dark: Elevation

Tony Khan has made a rare appearance on All Elite Wrestling television to make a match between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Matt Sydal.

On the inaugural episode of AEW Dark: Elevation Matt Sydal teamed with brother Mike to defeat Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs. The Sydal’s interview after their match would be interrupted by Kenny Omega who was scouting for talent. Omega told Sydal that if he could beat Michael Nakazawa, then Sydal would earn a match with Omega on Dynamite. If Sydal defeated Omega, he would earn a shot at the AEW World Championship.

Nakazawa who was doing his best QT Marshall impression, complete with apple was defeated by Sydal in relatively short order. After that bout Omega would emerge attacking Sydal. Omega stated that the match between the two would not take place on Dynamite but would happen there and then. Omega then hit the One-Winged Angel on Sydal as Nakazawa forced referee Rick Knox to count the pinfall. However, no bell had rung so the match had not actually taken place.

“You can’t promise people matches, I make the matches.”

This prompted Tony Khan to make a rare appearance on television and the first where he has been seen making matches. Interestingly the AEW Twitter account referred to Khan as ‘AEW GM’. Khan told Omega that the match between himself and Sydal would take place on the 24th of March edition of AEW Dynamite.

Tony Khan then told Sydal he would have nine days to prepare for the bout. Khan also confirmed the proposed stipulation where if Sydal beats Omega he gets a shot at the AEW Title.

The inaugural edition of AEW Dark: Elevation housed a bumper thirteen matches, all announced by Tony Schiavone and Paul Wight.

In the main event, the first-ever AEW Women’s Champion defeated compatriot Maki Itoh. This could be Itoh’s last match for AEW for some time as she has announced she is returning to Japan.
