AEW President Tony Khan has officially promised that a pay-per-view event will take place in Detroit, marking a major first for the Motor City in AEW history.

The announcement came at the conclusion of this week’s Dynamite, which was taped live in Detroit and featured a stacked lineup, including a heated face-to-face segment between Will Ospreay and “Hangman” Adam Page. Other highlights included Ricochet teaming with The Young Bucks in a six-man tag against Mike Bailey, Mark Briscoe, and Swerve Strickland, as well as Toni Storm battling Thunder Rosa, Penelope Ford, and Anna Jay in a four-way match. In the main event, Samoa Joe defeated Claudio Castagnoli in a hard-hitting contest.

Following the show, Khan appeared before the raucous live audience and addressed the city directly. Amid chants of “Pay Per View,” Khan declared:

“I can guarantee we’re going to do that.”

Referencing plans to bring a major event to Detroit.

“I just might need a bigger building for that. But I think I know one. Cause I think I’ve been there before.”

While Khan didn’t specify a venue or date, his comments have sparked speculation that AEW could be eyeing Ford Field, the 65,000-seat stadium that previously hosted WrestleMania 23 in 2007. The venue is the largest in the city of Detroit and would represent a significant escalation in scale for AEW, which has already ventured into huge stadium shows like All In at Wembley Stadium in 2023 and 2024, with the 2023 edition amassing a huge audience of 72,265.
